"I kept screaming in front of my husband to stop but he continued to forcefully have sex. That night was the most painful night of my life."
Aditi (pseudonym) hails from Mumbai. She doesn't want her name published, but she wants to tell her story so that many new couples can understand that first sex is not always romantic, but sometimes it can be very painful.
Aditi was married to her cousin three years ago with her choice and the consent of her family.
'After the engagement, we talked about everything, even sex and plans for our children. We also discussed porn videos many times and shared those videos. That is, I felt that if I became friends with his fiancé, sex between us would not be difficult.
Aditi says that even her husband at the time believed that the most difficult phase of first-time sex was the rupture of the hymen, which causes pain.
"We both thought that the pain would probably go away in a few seconds. My husband was told the same thing on his wedding day by his married friends and cousins that you don't think about the pain, it's natural, you just have to have sex anyway'.
Aditi says that on the day of the wedding, she was excited about moving away from her home and also afraid of having sex with a man. I wanted everything to end quickly.
She said that on the wedding night, during sex, I started having pain and within a few moments it became unbearable, now I kept stopping my husband, until I started screaming. We saw that I was bleeding profusely, we waited. But the pain did not stop nor did the bleeding. The blood was flowing so much that I had to go to the hospital'.
Aditi was taken to the hospital by her husband and mother-in-law, where the doctor said that her 'vagina' had been damaged causing bleeding and that her 'vaginal track' was too narrow to have sex without treatment. It will not be possible
Aditi says that she was very embarrassed and felt that she had brought shame to her family. "Everyone in the family knew about it, but my husband and mother-in-law helped me a lot and explained that it was not my fault."
After doing some scans and an internal ultrasound, the doctor told her that her 'hymen tissues' were thick, which made sex difficult. This condition is called hypertrophied.
In a hypertrophied condition, there is a hole in the hymen, but the thickness of this tissue or tissue is so high due to the different layers that in some cases it can be removed only through minor surgery.
According to doctors, if a man tries to forcefully have sex in such a situation, the vaginal track is damaged. Doctors say that a vagina that is not ready for sex or women who have hypertrophied, have to face severe pain.
Aditi underwent surgery and was given 'dilators' which were used to open the vaginal tract for a month. After a month, the doctors told her that now she can get married.
'But I was so scared, my first experience was so bad that I was never ready for sex. It took some time to overcome this fear.'
